Step into the Hermit Club and join a vibrant group of artists, musicians, actors and patrons of the arts! The Hermit Club is a unique community that presents arts events, hosts dinners and parties in the pub and creates fellowship!
The Hermit Club has served as a meeting place for professionals with a passion for the arts since its founding in 1904.
Organized by Cleveland architect Frank B. Meade, The Hermit Club was patterned after The Lambs Club in New York City. The Hermit Club's first clubhouse was originally built on Hickox Place (E. 3rd Street) in the heart of the theatrical district of the day. The current Abbey on Dodge Court, constructed in 1928, reflected the shift of the focal point of theatre in Cleveland from Public Square to Playhouse Square.
Hermit Club talents, staged for the pleasure of members and guests, historically have included a symphony orchestra, a blues/jazz group, a chorus, a drama guild and even a barbershop quartet.
